12 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
For the Chocolate Cream:
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
For the Chocolate Frosting:
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup heavy cream
Pinch of salt
★Instructions
Preheat Oven*Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Make the Cake Batter* In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until combined. Stir in boiling water until smooth. Divide batter between pans.
Bake* Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Prepare Chocolate Cream* Heat heavy cream until just boiling. Pour over chopped chocolate and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir until smooth, then mix in softened butter. Chill until firm.
Make Frosting* Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, beating until smooth. Add heavy cream, vanilla, and salt. Beat until fluffy.
Assemble the Cake* Spread chocolate cream between cake layers. Frost the cake with chocolate frosting.
