★Ingredients
3 cups pasta shells
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 pound ground beef (85% fat)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or to taste)
1 cup beef broth or water
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil or parsley (for garnish, optional)
Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
★Instructions
- Cook the Pasta:
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the pasta shells and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Brown the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet or pan over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add Onion and Garlic:
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add Tomatoes and Seasoning:
If using, add the diced tomatoes (with their juices) to the pan. Pour in the beef broth or water. Stir in the Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Combine with Pasta:
Add the cooked pasta shells to the skillet and gently toss to combine. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
- Serve
Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and garnished with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
Enjoy!
