For the crust*
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose flour
For the citron cream filling*
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1/2 cup fresh citron juice (or lemon juice if citron is unavailable)
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Powdered sugar, for dusting
2 tablespoons citron zest (or lemon zest)

- Preheat the Oven*
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, allowing some overhang on the sides for easy removal. - Prepare the Crust*
- In a medium bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, mixing until well combined.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- Prepare the Citron Cream Filling*
- While the crust is baking, whisk together the eggs, 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of flour, fresh citron juice, and citron zest in a large bowl until smooth.
- Combine and Bake*
- Pour the citron cream filling over the hot crust.
- Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the filling is set and lightly golden on top.
- Cool and Serve*
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the baking dish.
- Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out of the dish.
- Dust the top with powdered sugar before slicing into squares or bars.
