- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Prepare the Dough*
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and egg. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Topping*
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup or honey. Pour this mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Arrange the banana slices over the sugar mixture.
- Prepare the Filling*
- In a medium bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and mashed bananas until well combined.
- Assemble the Rolls*
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Evenly spread the banana filling over the rolled-out dough.
- Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.
- Bake*
- Place the slices cut side down on top of the banana and sugar mixture in the baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve*
- Allow the rolls to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then carefully invert onto a serving platter so the caramelized bananas are on top.
- Enjoy!
